Functional medicine & Lifestyle medicine play a huge role in our health care yet it is often overlooked. I have always sought to try and heal myself as holistically as possible, mixing both functional and conventional medicine together.
I have witnessed and seen first hand the benefits of good nutrition, movement, mindset, supplementation and more importantly giving the person more control of their own health and empowering them to be their own health advocate.
“Over the last 10 years or so I have personally experienced deep chronic fatigue, a Fabry Diagnosis along with heart & kidney issues and other various physical ailments. Through the practice of Functional Medicine & Lifestyle medicine, I have been able to lead a fairly normal life and slow my disease down.”

Inherited metabolic disorders refer to different types of medical conditions caused by genetic defects — most commonly inherited from both parents — that interfere with the body’s metabolism.
These conditions may also be called inborn errors of metabolism.
Metabolism is the complex set of chemical reactions that your body uses to maintain life, including energy production. Special enzymes break down food or certain chemicals so your body can use them right away for fuel or store them. Also, certain chemical processes break down substances that your body no longer needs, or make those it lacks.
When these chemical processes don’t work properly due to a hormone or enzyme deficiency, a metabolic disorder occurs. Inherited metabolic disorders fall into different categories, depending on the specific substance and whether it builds up in harmful amounts (because it can’t be broken down), it’s too low or it’s missing. With Fabry Disease we don’t have the Enzyme that breaks down lipids or fats. These fats collect in blood vessels and tissue, raising the risk of heart attack, stroke and kidney failure.
With my skill set lying in Nutrition & Lifestyle medicine, I want to be able to give back to those with Fabry disease, predominantly Females as we tend to be classed as ” just carriers” so therefore symptoms are lessened, when in actual fact it could not be any further from the truth.
I want to offer scholarships to individuals in order to help them access certain services they could not otherwise obtain due to financial or other constraints.
I know first hand the expense of living with a rare disease, I also know first hand of experiencing these wonderful services to help live a fuller life.
By running seminars & speaking at events the Female Fabry Foundation will seek to inform the public & Health officials about our health and wellness options that can be made available to help those affected.
We will also work with other Rare disease charities to inform others of Fabry and specifically females living with the disease.
Our 12 week Lifestyle Medicine Plan is aimed to educate and bring positive change to those living with Fabry disease. Lifestyle Medicine is evidence-based, that supports behaviour change through person-centred techniques to improve mental wellbeing, social connection, healthy eating, physical activity, sleep & stress resilience.
